TAMARA SIGLER

For years I have been drawn to crows and ravens, with their loud, bold and clever behaviors. I am often struck by how human and familiar their interactions seem.

My "Spirit Guide" paintings draw from multiple religious traditions and explore the connection between human, animal, and spirit. 

I am also at work on a “Life of Birds” series depicting origami birds interacting within still life scenes. Origami birds represent for me our creative, poetic, or spiritual qualities. They tell of thoughts and stories and knowledge that can be passed across generations. My intent is for the paper birds with simplified lines and forms to interact and communicate with individual and distinct personalities.

I hope my paintings convey human personalities and interactions in a truthful spirit, with a contemporary approach that is inspired by western tradition.
